In recent years, the interplay between algebraic topology and theoretical physics, in particular quantum field theories and string theory, has played a significant role in the work of many researchers. The ideas from quantum field theories and string theories have profoundly influenced algebraic topology. There are several significant progresses in the past years.
This workshop will be focusing on, but not limited to, the following topics:
1) K theory, elliptic cohomology and various field theories;
2) String topology
The purpose of the workshop is to bring together researchers working on the areas to communicate ideas and dig out the connections as well as stimulate possible research collaboration. The workshop will also provide opportunities to graduate students, both locally and internationally, to learn new progresses of the relevant fields as well as communicate with working mathematicians.
In this 5-day workshop, there will be 4-5 lectures on each day.
Each of the following people will give a 3-lecture minicourse:
- Scanning and the homotopy type of bordism categories by Soren Galatius, Stanford University
- Factorization algebras by Owen Gwillia, University of California at Berkeley
- Higher Chern-Simons theory by Urs Schreiber, Utrecht University
- Gerbes with connections by Konrad Waldorf, Universität Regensburg
