Semi-parametric Methods for Survival
|
Co-chairs
This program focuses on selected areas of modern statistics and biostatistics with a focus on semi-parametric modeling and analysis. Semi-parametric models arise naturally from biomedical science, economic studies and, more recently, from the analysis of quantitative traits such as disease onset times and analysis in human genetics.
To a great extent, the overriding theme of the proposed program centers around modern statistical developments related to the health sciences. In the best part of the last century, the health sciences have been the most important force behind the tremendous growth of statistics, from epidemiological studies of identifying risk factors to clinical trials of new medicine. As a result, biostatistics is now the single largest branch of statistics. In recent years, there have been important major developments in survival analysis beyond the classical Cox proportional hazards regression. The rapid advance in computer power has provided unprecedented opportunities for statisticians to develop novel methods that rely heavily on large-scale computations and Monte Carlo simulations. By bringing together the world’s leading experts from these and related areas, the program will create an atmosphere for discussing the state-of-the-art developments and for identifying new research problems and directions. It fits nicely into Singapore’s economic development of which biomedical research is a major component. It can also help facilitate high quality research activities in the region.
There will be five topics covered by the program:
non-proportional hazards regression
multivariate survival analysis
semi-parametric models for limited dependent variables in cross-sectional studies and panel data
longitudinal data analysis
computer-intensive methods and analysis of large data sets.
