 Overview

Nonlinear partial differential equations are widely used to model many problems in materials science, engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, etc. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation are two fundamental and important mathematical tools for studying these equations which arise in the applied sciences such as fluid mechanics and electromagnetics.

The Institute for Mathematical Sciences at National University of Singapore (IMS/NUS) and The Institute of Mathematical Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (IMS/CUHK) will jointly organize a 4-day workshop on the theme "Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations: Analysis, computation and applications" at IMS/NUS in Singapore. The workshop will bring together scientists from overseas and local researchers from NUS departments and A*STAR institutes to interact and exchange ideas across different disciplines. This event will also provide opportunities for local graduate students and young researchers to learn state-of-the-art knowledge in a multidisciplinary area with wide applications.

Topics will include: conservation laws, fluid mechanics, water waves, numerical methods, transport phenomena, kinetic theory, inverse problems, combustion, semiconductor modeling and simulation, Bose-Einstein condensation, quantum hydrodynamics, nonlinear Schrodinger equations, plasma physics.
